Village collectors have been around for many years and every Christmas, they bring out the cutesy, lit buidlings that inspire so much awe. In 2003, I discovered a whole line of dark and scary villages, aimed at the Halloween enthusiast. There are now two main makers of these gothic little buildings, Lemax Spooky Town and the far superior Department 56 Halloween. My first piece was the Ghostly Carousel. From its humble beginnings, my Hauntsville Village has been expanding and becoming more intricate. In the process, I'm learning a handful of new skills like painting, woodworking, electrical know-how, and even engineering. In 2007, my display was chosen by Village D-Lights, a collectors magazine, for their cover and feature, and in 2009, Collector Editions also ran a story about my village. |
